Day 1 of 19 · Part 1: Foundations
Introducing the API Edition
The biggest unlock for managing endpoints at scale isn't another console click. It's automation and integration through Microsoft Graph.
If you manage endpoints at scale, the biggest unlock isn’t another console click. It’s automation + integration. And the fastest way to do that in the Microsoft ecosystem is Microsoft Graph: a single endpoint (https://graph.microsoft.com) that gives you programmatic access to Microsoft cloud services, including Intune.
Why this is critical
Intune APIs in Microsoft Graph let you pull device and app data, manage policies, and automate common admin workflows, using the tools you already like: PowerShell, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and more. That means:
- Repeatable operations
- Better reporting
- Easier integration with ITSM, HR, and security systems
Over the course of this series I keep it practical, with daily posts on Intune API basics, Graph basics, and OData basics, and real examples you can reuse.
Your first “hello world” call
Try this in Graph Explorer, signed in with an account that has Intune read access:
GET https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/deviceManagement/managedDevices
It returns the devices Intune manages in your tenant. Everything else in this series builds from calls like this one.
